The Foyer
Stepping through the door, one is transported back to a time when living spaces exuded charm and singular character. So difficult to find in the city, this apartment actually has a foyer-- The layout is such that one can enter the space and neither trip over another who is sleeping, nor be greeted by a stove-- A most civilized design!
The pumpkin-shaped Hundi lantern, from Vaughan of London, is controlled with a dimmer switch (as are all the light fixtures throughout the living areas, closet, and bath), and is set in a Georgian styled ceiling medallion. Egg and Dart moulding as well as a broken-pediment overdoor add dimension to an overall classical architectural statement.
The building entry/intercom system, upgraded and installed recently, is accessed and activated by the wall-mount phone by the front door.
The planked hardwood floors are original and in excellent condition, while all of the thresholds off the foyer (entrance, kitchen, and bath) are marble.
