The
Kenmore Room Air
Conditioner
(79056)
was listed as
"Very Good" in
2001 by Consumer
Reports. It is a
5400 BTU/hr unit
which cools from
100 to 350
square feet.
- Power
- pressing this
button will turn
the unit on or
off. When it is
first turned on,
the setting will
be on the High
Cool setting,
and the
thermostat will
be set at 72
degrees.
- Energy
Saver -
depressing this
button will
cause the fan to
turn on every
three minutes to
check the room
temperature and
determines
whether or not
additional
cooling is
needed.
-
Temperature
- unlike many
air conditioners
which only allow
you to choose
from "high",
"medium" or
"low" settings,
this one allows
you to set the
temperature in
one degree
increments from
60 degrees F. to
86 degrees F.
The number
chosen is shown
on the unit (not
on the remote
control) in a
digital format.
- Mode
- this button
lets you choose
whether or not
you want the
unit to act as a
fan, or cool the
room like an air
conditioner.
|
- Timer
- to raise the
temperature by 2
degrees F. every
30 minutes,
depress this
button for the
number of hours
you would like
this to occur,
up to 12 hours.
- Fan
Speed -
the choices here
are simple: high
fan or low fan,
depending on how
much air you
want blowing
out.
- Remote
Control
- The air
conditioner can
be operated with
buttons on the
unit itself, or
by the same
buttons on the
remote control.
It is
recommended that
the air filter
be cleaned every
two weeks
because dust
remaining on the
filter could
diminish the
cooling capacity
and air flow,
and this could
damage the unit.
To wash the
filter, it must
be removed and
rinsed in warm
water. Honestly,
the filter was
probably never
rinsed out prior
to our obtaining
it, and we have
not cleaned it
since installing
it early this
spring. Although
this may be
damaging to the
machine, it has
not seemed to
interfere with
how it cools the
air. The unit
itself can
easily be wiped
down with a mild
soap and water
solution.
